Dressing Up As the Opposite Gender

In order to remake a scene of the movie some like it hot with Marilyn Monroe, some of my classmates and I had to dress up as the opposite gender. Because of this, a question came up about what was good about dressing up as the opposite gender or working with some who was dressed as the opposite gender.

Dressing up as the opposite gender was not complicated. What is funny is that when one realized that have to dress up as a woman the first idea that one got is – I will need a wig, some jewelry, a little makeup, and also breast - . It looks like if people had stereotyped women’s appearance – how they must look according with men’s viewpoint - . However, in this case the most important was emulated the movie and being creative adding our personal style. On the other hand, even though I grew up in male chauvinist world (Colombia), dressing up as woman was completely normal (funny); moreover, I could see that for our Asian friends it was very usual too. Probably, it might be a little embarrassing for some of us because perhaps it was the first time, but certainly it was not a big deal for them. Finally, after I saw some of my classmates dressing up as the opposite gender, I considered that the differences between male and women are only question of apparel.

  1. HI~Jame:
I think the process of making our movies is brimming with difficulties and happniess~ Since we are working as one team, not just groups. That's the most joyful part of work. also we are glad that Jess and our classmates enjoyed it. Am i right, Jame?

  2. Hi Jaime,

As always, a pleasure to read your post! Also, I really like what James had to say--that is was difficult (perhaps emotionally or just physically) but also filled with happiness. I was tickled by your comment at the end, that the only difference between men and women is apparel. Are you kidding, being serious, or both?!?

  3. James you’re right.
Working as a one team was great. I will never forget this experience. Jessica my last comment is one of my last ideas about gender. Now I believed that man and women are much more similar that what we are thought. However, due to the male chauvinist world in which most of us have grown up, women and men have been differentiated with personal purposes. It is some like men trying to guess what is inside women’s mind and vice versa. Now I think we both have the same in deep. This topic could be so interesting. Finally I want to say that I am smiling while I write this because I never thought that my last line could cause intrigue.
