Dressing Up As the Opposite Gender

In order to remake a scene of the movie some like it hot with Marilyn Monroe, some of my classmates and I had to dress up as the opposite gender. Because of this, a question came up about what was good about dressing up as the opposite gender or working with some who was dressed as the opposite gender.

Dressing up as the opposite gender was not complicated. What is funny is that when one realized that have to dress up as a woman the first idea that one got is – I will need a wig, some jewelry, a little makeup, and also breast - . It looks like if people had stereotyped women’s appearance – how they must look according with men’s viewpoint - . However, in this case the most important was emulated the movie and being creative adding our personal style. On the other hand, even though I grew up in male chauvinist world (Colombia), dressing up as woman was completely normal (funny); moreover, I could see that for our Asian friends it was very usual too. Probably, it might be a little embarrassing for some of us because perhaps it was the first time, but certainly it was not a big deal for them. Finally, after I saw some of my classmates dressing up as the opposite gender, I considered that the differences between male and women are only question of apparel.

Street Car Named Desire

Street Car Named Desire is an excellent movie which was directed for Elia Kazan, and was written for Tennessee William. Talking about this movie is to talk about Marlon Brandon who split the history of the performance in two. His character was very natural, which was a new way of playing a character; furthermore, we can see how the other actors play rather like stage actors.

This movie show how looked one side of the New Orleans society in early 1950’s.This film illustrates to us an small part of New Orleans; however, I saw a crowded city in which men go to the factories and women stay at home taking care of kids. Also, we can note that New Orleans’ society had a hard system of rules for women. In conclusion, at that time there was not relationships between men and women. It was a relationship between men and objects. A woman in 1950’s had to look for a man in order to survive.

This movie talks about distractive love, relationship between men and woman, and men’s role and woman’s role in the earliest 1950.

The Cinema!

The Cycle of he Cinema Has Started

I have to start telling that I like all kind of art, but I have a special place in my heart for the 7th Art. I am completely sure that a movie can be considered art when it transmits a well supported concept. Now, it means that we got the same dilemma about what is art again. But I got something that could help us to clarify it. Maybe you have watched a movie that makes you so happy, very sad, or even upset, and then you ask yourself, why am I crying? It is just a film! This is because the people who were behind of the camera succeed in connecting with you in order to transmit a feeling, a concept, or a different view of the life.

Let's to the point, one of my favorite movies is by Stanley Kubrick. Actually, I like almost all his movies, but I had to choose just one for you. Finally, after 2 hours meditating, I decided that the shining will be a good movie to introduce Stanley Kubrick.

First of all, let’s review something curious about his biography. Stanley was an influential American filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, and photographer. He was born in New York, and was considered intelligent despite his poor grades at school. Also, he lived in England during most of the last 40 years of his career. Finally, Kubrick was noted for the scrupulous care which he chose his subject, his slow method of working, and the variety of genres.

The shining was not his best movie; however, it is at the top of best horror film list alongside Psycho, the Exorcist and Halloween. The shining is based upon Stephen King’s novel whose name is the same. Amazingly, Stephen disliked the movie, and then he collaborated with Mick Garris to create a television miniseries. So, we have two different versions, but sincerely do not waste your time on the TV version.

When I choose a movie I look for movies that have received awards or nominations. I know it is not warranty of being happy, but I saved time and avoid the bad feeling of watching a bad movie. In other words, a movie is like wine, which does not have to be the most expensive to being your favorite one.

For example, the shining is not the most winning movie, but it has some scenes which allow us see why it is an achievement in film making. If you watch this movie, please pay attention to the image, in which there is an antique elevator disgorging a tidal wave of blood. I am sure you will love it. Later, when you go to the cinema in order to watch one of the new stupid horror movies. I am sure that at the end of one of these movies, you will say to your friends, “guys you should watch The Shining”.

The trailer is up at the right side in the video bar.

PHOTOGRAPHY/ If you were an artist (photographer), what kind of photos would you take?

Sally Mann

Sally Mann is an American photographer, best known for her large black and white photographs, first of her young children, then of landscapes and lastly of dog’s bones. In spite of the controversy, the photos of her children are just photos of children made for their mother, but with an extra constituent, poetry. The Mann’s work is full in feeling, and also it is easy to note how each photo of her children has sometime that tell to viewers. Unfairly the ambiguity has been a factor that has allowed bad criticism on her work. Nonetheless, this ambiguity is not in Mann work, it is in the mind of the people that supposedly know about art, and can decide who is an artist and what art is.

Mann’s work could be defined how provocative or impudent, but it is not. Mann’s photography is just her life style, the way she conceives the world. People could say that Mann has taken advantage of her children, however for her children were just good models when she was trying to pick up something beauty to make pictures, just like happened whit the dog’s bones’ pictures.

IT HAS BEEN THE UNIT ABOUT MUSIC

WE FINISHED IT. AND NOW LET’S TALK ABOUT CONCLUSIONS

The last week the class made presentations about some of the songs mentioned in class before, and also about some special historical topic. The presentations were tidy, most of the groups used the same order, what made essay the understanding. Definitively, the part most difficult of the presentation was created the new song, and particularly in the case of my group to try of to sing it, too. However, it also was incredibly difficult choose the song to imitate. On the hand, the history-topic was tasks easy to perform due to there were many topics to pick up. Every presentation had something special; for instance, some of them used creativeness Power Point presentations, others presented excellent arguments about why they choose the song to imitate, and others made an interesting debate about their artist. Finally, I think everybody (this take account of me too) should improve the eye contact and posture.
The unit of music was simply a great unit. Music will be always a good topic to discus. In this occasion we talk about music’s genres and its represents. Maybe, in a future time, we can talk about the role of the music in human society, or its origins, among other things.

Madonna

Madonna Like a Fountain of Culture

Madonna cannot be comparated with artists how Waters and Dylan. She is an excellent artist, but different age means different kind of artist. When Dylan and Waters performanced, people asked for a good singer. However, in Madonna's age people ask for more thins on the scenery dance, look, imagine. On the other hand, Madonna is not alone, behind of her there are many people that take advantage of her peculiar style. Nonetheless, she has that characteristic, which makes her a special person. That is, she has her mojo working. Finally, Madonna’s life has been impact for different decades. Surely, early 70’s could have been one of the decades with more influences on her. Now I ask. What will be happening to Madonna when she cannot perform how she does it today?
